Health Care, A Right not an Option

Much is being discussed about the health care issue, from cost to coverage. For those looking for an overview of both McCain and Obama’s plan, the AMA has an online article disecting each candidate’s plan on health care coverage. You can view it here. Last night, the lion who takes no prey in his agressive assault on healthcare for all, Senator Edward Kennedy, appeared at the convention. It was an incredible experience and accomplishment. This man is receiving aggressive treatment for a cancer that has a history of terrible outcomes. The treatment alone can bring the recipient to the ground in feelings of weakness and a compromised immunity to infection. Yet he, Senator Kennedy, felt it important enough to send a message to America. Unite, dream on, believe, and together we will make a difference.

For health care, he alone stands on top of the mountain for assuring quality health care for all.

Would free health care have saved Mary Jo Kopechne?

No one or thing could save Mary Jo. It is and remains a tragedy for her and her family. It took Ted Kennedy a long time to become a real person and to dedicate himself to helping others. And he has. That will never resolve what happened with Mary Jo.

There is no dismissal of the bad each of us may have caused in our lifetimes. But as we don’t forget the bad, we should still celebrate the good. And Kennedy has done good for others.
