Handmade paper bead bracelet

I’ve worn this bracelet for several days now, in order to test it’s durability, and I’ve received several complements! “Wow, you made those out of what?” Many have to do a double take because they don’t believe they are beads made out of magazine paper! “You could sell those!” Yes, I have thought about this. But the amount of time it takes to make these cancels out the possibility of ever making a worthy profit. They would probably make excellent gifts though! Check out my previous blog posting on how to make these handmade paper beads.

How to make a bracelet: I love using hemp because it is so durable and it frames the beads nicely. It is also fairly cheap and I always have a ball of it lying around. To make this bracelet, I took two strands of hemp and fed them through either side of the bead, so that they both passed through the bead and to the opposite side. Kind of like you would do when lacing up a shoe! It takes time and care to do this right, so that the beads are aligned perfectly. Pull the hemp gently to make sure the beads rest against each other in the middle. The bracelet will stretch over time. I actually had to take a few beads out, tighten up the hemp, and resize it to fit my wrist. Make it longer, and it would work nicely as a necklace!

I have made a bracelet like this with elastic thread. That way it won’t stretch out of shape but then you do lose the look of the hemp. Maybe there is some way to use both and have the look and the stretch. I love the way yours turned out.
