One of a kind ornaments

These Christmas ornaments are my all time favorite holiday craft! They are a great family project for all ages (with supervision). I love making them with my mom, sister and my girlfriends as well. Warning: making these ornaments can be addicting!! Skip ahead and view all the photos before you begin. This will give you a general idea of how to make them. (photos by John Hess)

Pointers: clean the ornaments out by pouring in a small amount of rubbing alcohol (swirl it around and then drain) 24 hours before adding acrylique paint. Use 3 colors for each ornament, metallic colors work the best. Add about 3/4 of a tablespoon of each color to the inside of the ornament. Once all the colors meet together, tilt and rest the ornament on one side using a cup to stabilize it’s position. Rotate the ornament every 60 seconds. If you rush this process, the results will not be good.

You can have several ornaments rotating at the same time. When the entire ornament has been saturated with paint, turn it upside down so that the excess paint can drain out, into the cup. Keep the ornament in this position for at least a day. Replace the top and add some decorative ribbon that can hang from the branches of the tree. Happy crafting!!

Thank you Julia! Yes, it is a great way to bond with the family. My sister is funny when she tries to make these. She always tries to experiment with different techniques and ends up with an ornament that is one solid color! Patience is the key to this one!
