Favorite blogs of the day

Like many of you blogging cooks out there (or cooking bloggers), I often get my inspiration from others. Here’s what inspired me today:

1. Chimichurri sauce from Everybody Like Sandwiches

I have big plans for this sauce, some venison chip steak, and ciabatta bread to make a tasty twist on the ordinary steak sandwich. I’ll post that next Thursday. This Thursday, stay tuned for three ways to use a big batch of chili and not get sick of it.

2. Turkey and cannellini bean soup with sweet potatoes and rosemary from Kalyn’s Kitchen

The perfect, delicious use for the leftover turkey my mom packed up for me! On another note, I really like Kalyn’s Kitchen because you can easily print the recipes. Nice touch!

3. Stained glass gingerbread cookies from A Smart Mouth

I’m planning the menu for my holiday open house, and these will be a colorful touch. The step-by-step photo directions are fantastic.

4. A lesson on vanilla from Bittersweet

This is a very informative lesson on the different types of vanilla and which is best for what type of baking. Heading into the holidays, this will come in handy!

5. Roast pork with apples and sage from A Spoonful of Sugar

This reminded me of my post from yesterday, and I thought the two would accompany each other well. I also had visions of a single-serving size of this, using a boneless pork chop. And you all know how much I love pancetta!

I am Julia, an editor for The Erickson Tribune with a passion for food, photographs, and turning large recipes into single servings. People who live or at least eat alone tend to cook less because most recipes serve four to eight people, not one. And most ingredients are scaled for those recipes, so waste seems inevitable. This blog is my way of bringing easy, delicious, healthy single serving dishes to those who cook for themselves. You don’t have to be a chef; here you’ll find tips and recipes that make cooking for one enjoyable and satisfying. Please send me your requests for recipe makeovers to be featured on my blog. You can post them or send them to julia.boyle@erickson.com Bon appetit!
