What's New

Treats, no Tricks

Some people believe that retirement communities are for old people to go to die. Let them come to an Erickson Community! I thought I would share with you some fun that occurs everyday,  every way, at one or more of our communities. I like to believe that Erickson Health is the heart and soul of the community as we help people to live their lives to the fullest, everyday, no matter what their health.

Here’s a Halloween treat: Tallgrass Creek’s Human Resources Department employees greeted Halloween with an “Elvis Pumpkin,” which they created  as part of the Overland Park, KS,  retirement community’s Halloween contest. No one yet knows when this Elvis will leave the building.

Who Knew? Some female residents at Greenspring have been focusing on a new fundraising effort – although they’re using some unconventional tactics. After watching the 2003 movie “Calendar Girls,” three female residents decided to pose for their own fundraising calendar, which would benefit Greenspring’s Benevolent Care Fund – a fund set up to support residents who, despite careful planning, outlive their financial resources. The project itself, though,
has been a little mysterious. “I can honestly say I don’t know who is involved in this project. They all want to remain anonymous until the day the calendar comes out,” said Greenspring’s Director of Philanthropy Kimberly Nelson. “But I do know the entire thing has been organized by our female residents.” The initial three volunteers have since recruited another nine calendar models, a female resident photographer and additional women from around the community to help with makeup, scheduling, staging and props

Wii strikes again! Some of you may have seen our Wii Bowling Tournament video on You Tube recently. Well the Sedgebrook-Nintendo booth drew big crowds at the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging’s (AAHSA) annual meeting and exposition last week.
“Our goal was to draw attention to seniors playing Wii,” Lamberti explains. “We wanted to show that playing Wii is a social event that’s accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and helps build a sense community.” The theme of this year’s conference was “Live Your Story.”

Bottom line: Older People Rule!!!
