Humor in Heaven, Guess a Good Laugh was needed there: Dody Goodman and George Carlin

Dody Goodman, the comedian known for her television appearances on Jack Paar’s late-night talk show and as the mother on the show “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” died Sunday at 93. Do you remember Dody? I used to watch her on Jack Paar. She had a unique voice.

George Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, also died Sunday evening after entering a California Hospital complaining of chest pains. Carlin had performed recently (last weekend) at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71.

I don’t know how all of you feel, but I loved most of George Carlin’s material mostly because he made those life issues that were frustrating to most of us, hysterically funny. He could make me laugh out loud at a TV or DVD of his performance. Good medicine that man….cause laughter is the best medicine. What is your favorite Carlin joke?

I know YouTube has some videos of him but could not get my computer to go there today. So here are some funny Carlin quotes
available at http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/quotes/george_carlin.html.

Here are some of my favorites:

Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn’t it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted?

When someone is impatient and says, “I haven’t got all day,” I always wonder, How can that be? How can you not have all day?

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

Okay, I was finally able to get on YouTube. Because I am a pack rat, my favorite routine from Carlin was his on Stuff…here it is.

Do you have a favorite quote?

  1. Here is one of my favorite Carlin quotes (that I think will pass as okay to print)“”I am” is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that “I do” is the longest sentence?”

  2. USA Today has a great article on Carlin. Here is a great quote for you. When told the Kennedy Center is scheduled to honor him in Washington, D.C., this fall. The honor: The Mark Twain Prize, a lifetime achievement award presented to outstanding comedians.Carlin’s response to the recent announcement: “Thank you, Mr. Twain. Have your people call my people.”

This article is great. Here is link (I hope I can do that) http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2008-06-23-carlin-cover_N.htm

  3. Loved Carlin and the best part is that my parents and I actually liked him. I think he was ageless in his humor

What a great clip. I can totally relate, having just moved from a teeny tiny room with just not enough space for my little bit of STUFF. Now that I’ve moved to a bigger place, what do I do? Get more stuff, of course!
    Thanks for sharing!
