Forgetfullness? Brain overload vs. transient amnesia


Most of us, from time to time, find ourselves forgeting things. While this seems to occur as we age, it really can happen at any time. How many of you park your car when you go to shop and can’t remember where your car is? How many find yourselves driving on autopilot and suddenly you don’t know where you are going?

Facebook and older people, new trend


According to a recent story on MSNBC, more and more of the 65 or better population are joining social networks, especially MySpace and Facebook. Reason? They like seeing their grandchildren’s pictures; finding friends they haven’t seen in years and simply staying in touch.

Ode to Returning to Work


I have been out for 2+ weeks after Cataract surgery. The surgery was fast; the doctors were exceptional as was the staff; the eye is great; the left eye is not (no cataract) so the 2 eyes are different and seeing had to wait till glasses were done.

Boomers and Above: Surf the ‘Net and Increase Your Brain Function


Who knew? If you surf the web, you may increase your brain’s function; especially if you are a boomer and above! This is reported in a press release on WebMD. the release reports on a new study by UCLA (Parvin Foundation funding) that looked at brain activity during web searches.

They found that for middle to older adults had more stimulation of decision making and complex reasoning areas of the brain than peers who were new to web surfing. They also found that reading does not stimulate the same areas of the brain as Internet surfing does. Read the full story
